One of the unique attributes of Iris Healing Retreat is that we believe in doing the hard work of recovery in uplifting and enriching settings on a regular basis.
So it was that last week Iris residents made a field trip to the beautiful Japanese Garden, adjacent to Lake Balboa. The garden’s purpose is to demonstrate the use of reclaimed water and is ranked 10th out of 300 Japanese public gardens in the United States by the Journal of Japanese Gardening.
The 6.5 acre property contains gardens, ponds, waterfalls, stone sculptures, a tea house, tea gardens and more. Iris residents did a somatic experience group, a spiritual mindful walk and ended the outing with a picnic lunch. One resident summed up: “I’ve been in treatment a few times but I’ve never done anything like this!”
